Idents

E4

E4 ('Channel 4 without the boring bits') was launched on 18th January 2001, and is an entertainment channel aimed at a young adult audience. Originally available only to pay television subscribers, the channel was added to Freeview in May 2005.

E4 has always had a cheeky, irreverent style, and this has been reflected in its presentation over the years. Shown here are examples from idents dating from the channel's launch in 2001; from between 2004 and 2007 when E4 employed its very own kitsch band, who could be seen playing in all sorts of odd locations; and from the ident set used between 2007 and 2013.

The 2018 rebrand saw E4 launch a wide range of lengthy, elaborate idents, most of which are animated.

Our favourite here has to be the cheeky chip shop callback to the original Channel 4 symbol of 1982!

E4's programming, however, perhaps fails to live up to the promise of its presentation style - the channel commissions only a small quantity of original material, with most of its airtime taken up with US sitcoms and repeats from its parent channel.
