W
The channel known simply as W originally launched in October 2008 as a general entertainment channel called Watch. Available only to subscribers of pay television, the publicity surrounding the channel's launch centered mainly on the recruitment of Richard and Judy to present a daily chat show - however, following poor ratings, the show was axed after less than a year.
Watch was rebranded as W in February 2016, taking over the daily EastEnders repeats from BBC3 - these were axed after two years due to, um, poor ratings.
W has since shifted to a more lifestyle-orientated format, helping to fill the gap left after Discovery took full control of UKTV's previous lifestyle channels Really, Home and Good Food in 2019.
In March 2022 W switched to free-to-air transmission, and to coincide with this launched a new logo and a series of new live action idents, designed to reflect W's tagline 'Life Unfiltered'. In practice, they merely comprise stock footage with a logo slapped on top - that really is it.
A compilation of video clips of the idents on this page can be found at our YouTube channel.
